Pat McCrory Challenges Perdue For More Debates

Lt Governor Perdue has a history of avoiding the public in general, and no doubt will continue this routine if elected Governor.

NC GOVERNOR NEWS -- The Elect Pat McCrory for Governor Campaign today responded to Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue's limited debate schedule and Pat McCrory called on Perdue to join him in a series of discussions on the issues in every part of the state.

Campaign Manager Richard Hudson said:

"We are glad to hear that the Lt. Governor has finally agreed to some debates. Pat has been calling for debates across North Carolina since his acceptance speech on the night of the primary. I am surprised that she has only accepted 5 of the debates Pat has already agreed to, and there are some glaring omissions from her list. Why would Perdue skip the NC Press Association event on July 18th or the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters Debate on July 20th? These debates will undoubtedly have statewide coverage and will offer the voters of North Carolina the opportunity to compare the two candidates. I am also concerned that Perdue appears to be avoiding any joint appearances in Western North Carolina."

"Pat has agreed to debate anywhere and everywhere. Let's get on with the discussion of the issues so the voters of North Carolina can make an educated choice for the person to lead this state."

The North Carolina Republican gubernatorial candidate, Pat McCrory, has accepted seven debates so far, but believes the people of North Carolina deserve a more thorough discussion on the issues. Therefore, McCrory is challenging Lieutenant Governor Perdue to join him in discussions on the issues in every part of North Carolina, and go beyond five structured debates.

In his response, Pat McCrory said:

"I am happy to have already accepted the five debates the Lt Governor announced today and have agreed to several others that she has not accepted. But, we should go beyond just a few structured, formal debates. I would like to invite the Lt. Governor to join me in a series of joint appearance around the state to discuss the issues of this campaign. Instead of formalized debates with sound bite answers we should allow the voters the chance to hear where we stand on issues and how we would lead the state as Governor."

Clearly, this response from Pat McCrory sheds light to the direction Beverly Perdue wishes to take the electoral race. The NC Press Association event and North Carolina Association of Broadcasters Debate are both highly publicized debates. Furthermore, Western North Carolinians are probably the most zealous citizens in regards to actively following NC politics. Mr. Hudson brings up a valid point. Why would Perdue shy from public debate? Maybe this is a sign of the future if she is elected?

In 2007, Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue only released 21press releases. To put this into perspective, the Governor released 577 press releases in 2007. Obviously, Lieutenant Governor Perdue has a history of avoiding the public in general, and no doubt will continue this routine if elected Governor.

Finally, if Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue is seriously interested in representing the people of North Carolina as Governor, she needs to accept Pat McCrory‘s challenge to debate and shed transparency to this gubernatorial race.
