We Have an Adjusted State Budget

The governor has signed the budget and thanks legislators for their hard work.

July 17, 2008

COUNTY NC NEWS -- Yesterday, Governor Mike Easley signed House Bill 2436, “An act to modify the current Operations and Capital Appropriations Act of 2007, to authorize indebtedness for capital projects, and to make various tax law and fee changes.” The following is a statement from the Governor’s Office:

“The governor has signed the budget and thanks legislators for their hard work. He looks forward to the General Assembly finishing work on important remaining issues including legislation on drought, home foreclosure and mental health.”

It just goes to show, if you give to one -- you have to take from another. Amount shown in brackets are reductions in programs. Needless to say the largest shift in budget went toward education. Health and Human services looks to be the big losers in this year's budget, with a reduction of $185,283,411.

Meanwhile, the Highway Trust Fund lost $65 million. I guess education is more important than health and infrastructure?
