First Perdue Ad is a Negative Attack on McCrory

McCrory is also calling for full disclosure of Perdue's contributors.

MECKLENBURG COUNTY NEWS -- The general consultant for the Pat McCrory for Governor Campaign, Jack Hawke released the following statement regarding Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue's breach of promise to broadcast positive campaign ads:

"Beverly Perdue promised a positive campaign, but the first advertisement of the general election is a negative attack on Pat McCrory from a group of her supporters. What happened to ‘Positive Bev?'

"If Perdue truly practices what she preaches, she will call on her support group to immediately remove negative television advertising.

"The Perdue campaign was quick to condemn the Republican Governors Association for establishing a PAC with full transparency and disclosure of contributors. Now Perdue has a 527 established in secrecy and without disclosure of contributors running negative attacks. The group reported no contributions for the second quarter but bought over $300,000 worth of negative television advertising just four weeks later. It is obvious that they do not want North Carolina voters to know where their contributions are coming from.

"The McCrory campaign calls on Beverly Perdue to demand that her support group, The Alliance for North Carolina, immediately disclose the sources of their money.

"The Alliance for North Carolina was formerly called the Pioneer Majority and its past contributions came from government employee unions and the Democratic Governors Association. Apparently the first negative campaign ads for Perdue are paid for by government employee unions from other states.

"What has Perdue promised in return for such strong outside support?

"Yesterday on WBT radio in Charlotte, Perdue refused to answer a direct question about her support for collective bargaining and the right to strike by police officers, firemen, EMTs and other state employees. "Where do you stand, Beverly, on allowing government employees to go on strike?"

Yesterday, the Republican nominee for North Carolina governor, Mayor Pat McCrory, yesterday called Lt. Governor Beverly Perdue a hypocrite for accepting over $850,000 in PAC and committee money since 2000 and then criticizing McCrory for sending a fundraising letter to PACs. McCrory is also calling for full disclosure of her contributors.

McCrory is a man who does not back down from a fight, when wrongly attacked he stands his ground protecting his honor. This personality trait of McCrory's character was displayed during the Republican primary election when he defended himself against negative attacks on his role in the implementation of the 287G Program in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. Honor is an important character trait when defining one's worthiness for the position of the next North Carolina governor. So, as McCrory defended his honor in the primary, will Beverly Perdue defend hers in the general election? Will she give full disclosure of her contributors and answering the question on where she stands on allowing government employees to go on strike? Will Lt. Governor Beverly Perdue explain why she's broke her promise to broadcast only positive campaign ads? Only time will tell.
