Biotech Firm Investing $8 Million in Huntersville

Microban International Ltd creating 45 jobs by expanding its manufacturing facility

MECKLENBURG COUNTY NC NEWS -- A biotech company, Microban International Ltd., headquartered in Huntersville, North Carolina, will create 45 jobs by expanding its manufacturing facility investing $8 million over the next three years. Wages of the newly created jobs will vary by job function. The average weekly wage of the new jobs will be $1,846 plus benefits. Currently, the average weekly wage in Mecklenburg County, where Huntersville is located, is $755 not including benefits.

Microban International researches and designs ingredients for use in products to prevent microbial and bacterial growth. The biotech company's products are used in the consumer, industrial and medical markets. The Microban maintains offices worldwide, in Canada, the United Kingdom, Thailand and Germany.

Microban CEO David Meyers said, "We are pleased to expand in Huntersville. Microban continues to benefit from being able to attract the caliber of employee it needs to sustain its growth. Our employees and the community can look to our new facility as another symbol of our commitment to grow our worldwide business from the Charlotte area."

Microban International entered into an agreement with the state for a $45,000 One North Carolina Fund grant to help the business facilitate the $8 million expansion.

Governor Easley said of the biotech company's expansion, "Microban's decision points to the success of North Carolina's work to encourage growth in the biotechnology sector of our economy. Our investments in education and providing training for workers in modern facilities are keeping the state a leader in the biotech industry."
