BIOGRAPHY OF PAUL STAM
WAKE COUNTY NEWSFor 33 years I have lived and worked in Apex, helping thousands
of families negotiate the paperwork in order to purchase or refinance a home (about 4,000
closings), plan and settle estates and solve problems, while representing my neighbors in
the legislature, the courts and at city hall.
I am married to Dottie Mills Stam, Music Director of Apex
Baptist. We have two children, Nathan and Jana. Nathan is a graduate of NC State and
Southeastern Seminary and is Minister of Children at Apex Baptist. He and wife Kristi have
two sons, Aidan and Gavin. Jana is a graduate of UNC-CH. She and her husband Jimmy Estes
live in Apex with their two sons, William and Daniel.

PLATFORM
I will support: clean water through regional cooperation; more
freedom, less government; empower parents to ensure quality schooling for their children;
prolife protection for mothers and children; access to affordable quality health care;
fairness to state employees; traffic solutions; protection from condemnation and annexation
abuse; stop illegal immigration; allow deep ocean drilling for natural gas and oil 40 miles
at sea which will bring prices down and jobs to North Carolina.
I fought the wasteful spending of this session's General
Assembly, including hundreds of millions of dollars in subsidies to out-of-state
corporations. A 13% increase in spending last session for 2007-2009, following years of
similar increases, is not sustainable. Non-voted debt incurred this year of almost $1
billion was irresponsible.
The Assembly failed to address the State Marriage Amendment for
the last 4 years, although supported by a majority of House and Senate members. In 2009 we
must decide whether North Carolina will allow polygamy and same-sex marriage? The issue
will inevitably come to our courts because of decisions in Massachusetts and
California.
The Assembly has not completed action on protection of property
from condemnation or annexation abuse. 104 members voted for my constitutional amendment to
establish condemnation protection. But the Senate failed to even consider it.
The Assembly continues to reduce overall spending on
transportation while seriously shortchanging the Triangle. We get back 60 cents on the
dollar. This must stop!
