 <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>NC NEWS</strong> -- North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue has proclaimed her new initiative to stop Medicaid fraud. However, a similar initiative was introduced in 2003 by Republicans to promote technology to detect Medicaid fraud. Unfortunately, as Lieutenant Governor from 2003-2008, Perdue was culpable in not supporting this technology in SB 985 and the bill was never heard on the Senate Floor. Some estimate that since 2003, possibly a billion dollars of Medicaid fraud, waste and other improper payments have been made in North Carolina. The Republican Bill, if supported by Perdue in 2003 could have help protect these lost funds...</p>]]>
