September 15, 2007

MITCHELL COUNTY NC NEWS -- New Buck Corporation, a national supplier of wood-burning stoves and other items, will expand in Mitchell County creating 70 jobs and investing $2.3 million during the next three years. The New Buck Corporation accepted a $70,000 One North Carolina Fund grant.

New Buck plant manager, David Honeycutt said, "We had considered moving our operation to another county or even another state, but none had the available resources and high-quality work force as Mitchell County. We are very pleased to continue to be a part of Mitchell County and to be able to add to the community. The One North Carolina Fund grant will help make this expansion possible and in a timely manner."

The New Buck Corporation, headquartered in Spruce Pine, is a national supplier of custom fabricated wood-burning stoves, oil and gas burners, lights, fireplaces, as well as vented and vent free heaters. The company's expansion will increase stove production and provide contract machining and welding services. While wages will vary by job function, the average weekly wage of the new jobs will be $471 plus benefits.

Governor Easley, announcing the approval of One North Carolina Fund grant to New Buck Corporation said, "New Buck Corp. is building on more than 35 years of doing business in Mitchell County and demonstrates our commitment to helping firms expand and succeed. Companies recognize that our state's business-friendly climate and dedicated workers make it possible for them to grow."

The One North Carolina Fund assists the state in industry recruitment and expansion by providing financial assistance through local governments to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state. One North Carolina Fund grants require and are contingent upon a local match.

Partners who helped make this economic development possible include the N.C. Department of Commerce, Advantage West Economic Development Group, the N.C. Community College System and the Mitchell County Economic Development Commission. For more information about the New Buck Corporation, products, and job opportunities, visit www.buckstove.com.
