Frontier Spinning Mills, Plans to Expand Lee County Textile Plants

Creating 42 jobs and invest $20 million over three years

LEE COUNTY NC NEWS -- One of the largest producers of spun yarns for the knitting and weaving industries, Frontier Spinning Mills, plans to expand one of its Lee County textile plants. The Company's expansion will create 42 jobs and invest $20 million during the next three years. Frontier Spinning Mills employs more than 1,700 people at nine plants. Four of the plants are located in North Carolina, two in Sanford, one Mayodan, and one in Stoneville, those plants employee 1,500 people. The Company started in 1996 with one open-end spinning plant in Sanford, and since has grown to be recognized as the world's industry leader for spun yarns. In addition, the Frontier Spinning Mills expansion will also be partial funded by a $40,000 One North Carolina Fund grant.

George Perkins, CEO of Frontier Spinning Mills, announcing the Company's endeavor said: "We are pleased to announce plans to expand one of our facilities in Sanford and Lee County. The state and local communities have been very supportive of our company and its growth throughout the years. This support has helped Frontier make investments and create jobs that have been so meaningful to this area and across the state. Governor Easley said, "'Frontier Spinning Mills' decision to expand its operations in North Carolina is a reflection of our determination to help our traditional industries thrive and compete in the global economy"

State Senator Bob Atwater of Orange and Lee counties said, ''In the state Senate, we have worked hard to help local communities partner with state agencies so companies can grow. I will continue to support policies that make our state attractive to expanding businesses. I especially appreciate Mr. Perkins having the farsightedness to continue to invest in this community.''
