$13.7 million in Community Development Block Grants

CDBG funding is allocated to the state from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

ONSLOW COUNTY NC NEWS -- Eighteen communities will share more than $13.7 million in Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) for community revitalization, infrastructure improvement and the construction of affordable housing. CDBG funding is allocated to the state from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The N.C. Department of Commerce's Division of Community Assistance administers the program for the state.

Governor Easley said. "These grants will help improve the economic well being and quality of life for North Carolina families across the state. CDBG funding provides our local governments with resources that help address environmental, health and housing needs and make our communities better places to live, work and raise a family."

The fifteen cities, towns and counties listed below received a total of $13 million in CDBG Community Revitalization funds. These grants will help renovate or replace 194 apartments as well as help fund construction of 59,000 linear feet of water and sewer lines, street improvements and flood drainage to improve low to moderate income residential neighborhoods.

  • Lawndale - $1,000,000
  • Lexington - $1,000,000
  • Maxton - $1,000,000
  • Brunswick Town - $850,000
  • Columbia - $850,000
  • Lewisville-Woodville - $850,000
  • Navassa - $850,000
  • Rockingham - $850,000
  • Raeford - $850,000
  • Selma - $850,000
  • Washington - $850,000
  • Stanly County - $850,000
  • Conover - $847,000
  • Enfield - $841,000
  • Onslow County - $700,000

Three cities, Oxford, Lumberton and Tabor City, received a total of $740,000 in CDBG Housing Development funds to help pay for construction of 148 apartment units to provide affordable housing for low to moderate income families.
